title : Introduction
The Sri Lanka conflict took place in Sri Lanka itself and it affected India, its neighbouring country as well to the point where India had to become a mediator between the Sri Lanka Government and the LTTE. The Sri Lanka also took place during the 1950s, and it has lasted for more than 20 years

What is the Sri lanka conflict about?

The Sri Lanka is about the dispute between the SriLanka Government not wanting to accede to the request of the LTTE of giving them an independent state, where they think they can ensure their own rights.
Why did the conflict come about?
This i because the Sri Lanka Government is bias towards the Sinhalese and gives the Sinhalese more priority and benefits compare to that of the Tamils. This caused unhappiness and a conflict between the Sinhalese and the Tamils. Since the Tamils felt that they were being treated unfairly, they felt that needed to have an independent state, to ensure their rights. However, the Sri Lanka Government refused to their request and as such, the tamils decided that they have to use violence to get what they want - to form a militant group, known as the LTTE or the Tamil Tigers.

How is the Sri lanka conflict caused ?

Tamils extremists believe that their culture is the oldest and very ancient, and all other South Indian languages "came" from Tamilso they are superior to Other South Indians (Dravidas). They also believe except tamil, all South Indian languages are corrupted by the influence of Sanakrit and Hindi. So the most feverish and die-hard tamil fanatics want to remove all "foreign" words form other South Indian languages and make them more "tamilish".
Since the tamil extremists consider Sri Lanka also as a part of the "greater tamil nadu", despite it is a country with 81% of the population are Sinhala with their own language, life stye, customs  and culture. Problems started showing up when tamils tried do impose the "true tamil culture" with the help of some myths like " neanderthals and gorillas who lived in Sri Lanka during pre-historic period were tamils" etc and as per the instruction from the Master tamils in tamilnadu , who deviced the "Dravida " mania. Sinhalese got pissed of with this and introduced Sinhala Only act in 1956. The trigger was a deadly attack on Sri Lankan  Army patrol unit that killed 13 soldiers , in 1983.That snowballed into a Sinhala retaliation and pogroms those killed 3000 tamils.

Citizenship
In 1948, Sri Lanka granted citizenship to only those who were either born in Sri Lanka or those whose fathers and grandfathers were born there. Many Indians were stateless. India tried to help but many Indians continued to be stateless in the late 1980s.

Jobs in Government
British placed Tamils in powerful jobs as they were good in English.1956 Official Language Act: Sinhala became language of administration. Tamils held peaceful demonstration but was disrupted by supporters of Sinhala language.

University admission.
Before 1970, Tamils were happy as education system was based on merit. 1970 onwards, Tamils had to score higher than the Sinhalese to enter most of the popular courses in the university like medicine.

Resettlement of population .
The government implemented a policy to provide land for the poor Sinhalese peasants. The peasants were transferred from the densely-populated south western and central areas into the Tamil areas. However, the Buddhist monks and Sri Lankan Army came with them.

Who are the Sri Lankans ?

The Sri Lankans are mainly Sinhalese , 4.3% Sri Lankan Tamil , 5.1% Indian Tamil , 8.0% Moor. The Buddhist are the main religious group in Sri Lanka , with 76.7% percent , 7.9% Hindus , 6.1% Christians , 8.5% Muslims.
The Sinhalese ancestors are natives of Sri Lanka , most of them are Buddhists and they speak Sinha. Sri Lankan Tamil are the descendants of Tamils who have been living in this country since 300BCE , most of us are hindus and they speak Tamil. The Indian Tamils ancestors were brought to Sri Lanka by the colonial masters to work in the tea plantations when Sri Lanka was colonized by the British. They have been here since the 1800s , most of them are Hindus and they speak Tamil too .
